The Manitoba League of Persons with Disabilities (MLPD) is currently recruiting for new Council members. Our Council is our board, who shapes and decides the direction for the Manitoba League of Persons with Disabilities.

About MLPD

MLPD is in the midst of an exciting time, connecting to new communities and engaging in a variety of engaging projects.

We are currently working with the City of Winnipeg, and Elections Canada on projects relating to accessibility, and conducted accessibility consultations for local organizations. We currently are partnering with indigenous people on two projects, and we are partnering with disability organizations across Canada on a number of projects as well. We produced a Seniors Resource Guide this year, held a public meeting on Manitoba’s transportation standard, and we have exciting projects planned for the future.

Our funding comes from federal and provincial government grants, other sources of grant funding, and our social enterprise accessibility consultation service. Increasingly, we are focusing our efforts on our social enterprise. We are members of the Council of Canadians with Disabilities and the Canadian CED Network.

Our Council and staff are people with lived experience with disability, from a variety of backgrounds and experience.

We are looking for passionate people with lived experience with disability who are passionate about making Manitoba accessible for everyone. We are committed to having a diverse and intersectional Council. Within that, we need people with the skills to help us get where we want to go. If you have community building, governance, business or fundraising skills, that’s something we want to know about.
